Book Overview
The main problem with e-books is that you can't stand there in the shop and have a good old flick from cover to cover to see if you like the book, the content or the setout!
Here is an overview of the book itself, the chapter headings and briefly what they cover.
It is an easy tips and tricks style guide for busy people, which will show them how to save money, save time, eat healthily, lose weight and feel better, whilst looking after the environment, your family, and your soul!!!
In short, I want you to Live Lightly!
I know that sounds like a tall order, but I hope I am able to give you some simple ideas which you can painlessly incorporate into your life, in order to gain BIG benefits!
It is my aim to help you live a more fulfilled and conscious existance, by making informed decisions about the most important aspects of your life.
I have included a few pages in this website to give you an idea as to what sort of things are covered in the book.
I have also chosen a few of my favourite chapters and given you a bit more detail in the website. This is mainly so you can get more of a feel for the book and its contents.
Live Lightly Now!
1. Introduction:
Who am I to be telling you all of this stuff???
An overview of who I am, who I am not, and my thoughts and
reasons for writing the book.
2. Getting Started:
How to use this book?
Explains some of the anomalies of the book, why I have set it
out in the way that I have, and hopefully what you can gain
from reading the book.
3. Kitchen Tips and Tricks from a Suburban Housewife:
Easy ideas for the “heart” of your home.
This chapter gives some great ideas and advice on how to
keep the kitchen clean, tidy, functional, and of course a lot
of fantastic ideas as to what to do with leftovers and how to
make your food healthier and more interesting.
4. De-Toxify your Home:
Using ”Chemical Free” (or low toxic) substitutes.
Some really good ideas as to how you can eliminate, or greatly
reduce, your dependence on toxic cleaning products. Full of
great old fashioned home remedies and step by step advice on
how to clean the "big ticket" items, such as toilets, showers,
basins and floors.
5. De-Toxify your Body:
Don’t listen to the food companies tell you what’s good for you!
In this chapter you will learn how to drastically minimise the
toxic load on your body. You will learn how to gain maximum
benefit from the food you eat, and also how to substitute
cosmetics made with petrochemical byproducts (in nearly ALL
cosmetics) with beautiful, natural, organic products.
6. De-Toxify your Soul:
How to make “Conscious Living” part of your everyday life
This chapter is about trying to get you to start “thinking”
about things you do, buy, support and engage in, and make
whatever you do, buy, support or engage in, actually mean
something! It's about how to make all the little things you do
in your life on a daily basis benefit someone or something else.
7. Change your Views on Diet and Exercise:
How to get fitter and lose weight, without realising it!
Gives my version of the obesity crisis as I understand it, and
also tries to take the fear and loathing out of the words
"diet" and "exercise"! This chapter will show you how to
make simple dietary and lifestyle changes which will have you
eating more healthily, and moving more often, without you even
realising it! This is hopefully a wonderful legacy you can l
leave our children.
8. Happy and Healthy Kids:
Some Easy ways to keep your Nippers Fit and Fantastic!
Here I go into what has worked for me with our two boys,
whether it is trying to get them to eat something, drink
something, do something or learn something! You will get some
great ideas such as how to set up a snack drawer for them, and
hopefully how to pack a healthy lunch box, without doing your
head in! Once you have the basics, its a breeze!
9. Making Money by Saving Money:
Just because you are the “stay at home” partner, doesn’t mean
you aren’t contributing to the household finances in a BIG
way!!!
Some really clever tips on how to save money and keep your
finances in order. Ranges from the large (look at refinancing
your home every 5-10 years) to the small (check the back of
supermarket dockets for free photo printing and coffee
vouchers!). Something for everyone!
10. Saving Water, Saving Electricity:
Some ideas, big and small, to help you conserve our vital
resources.
There are lots of day to day things you can do to save massive
amounts of water and electricity, as every little bit adds up.
Implement some of these changes and you will notice the
difference in your bills, and your conscience! Ranges from the
basics like turning appliances off at the wall, to the slightly
more committed such as installing massive underground
rainwater catchments or solar hot water systems. There are
also a few "quirky" ones in there too!
11. Wise up to Supermarket Shenanigans:
Recognising some of the tricks they use to part you from your
hard-earned!
There are SO many tricks supermarkets use to get you to
part with your cash, from the downright obvious (chockies and
mags at the checkout counter) to the most fiendishly,
devilishly, sneaky tricks, such as putting the bakery section
at the front of the store. This lures you in with the smell of
fresh baking, and triggers your hunter/gatherer instincts to
load up your trolleys! This chapter will bring these things to
your attention so next time you shop, you can do it with
greater knowledge and awareness.
12. General Bits and Bobs:
Some good stuff to help you organise your life!
Here I share with you some general tips and tricks, which
didn't fall neatly into any of the other chapters. Things such
as hanging shirts inside out on clothes hangers to dry. This
stops them getting faded, and the little "angel wings" left by
the hanger disappear as you turn them back the right way to
wear them. Also, leaving a supply of bin bags in the bottom of
the bin so when you pull out a full load, you've got
replacements at hand.
13. Last but not least, my 10 tips on a healthy and happy life.
Just a little bit of self-indulgence on my part! My personal
pointers as to how I like to live my own life.
14. Appendix : Useful Websites and Organisations.
Further research should you wish to carry it out!
Here I have just listed down the names and web addresses if
applicable of all of the influential people or organisations in
my life. These are the sites that have inspired me, educated
me and kept me on the straight and narrow!
